A special guest will flick the switch and make Cambridge shine.
It’s almost time for that all important guest of honour to flip the switch and make Cambridge sparkle.
The shops are filled with advent calendars, decorations are coming down from the loft, and we can all agree it’s getting ever so cold, but nothing means Christmas is coming quite like a lights switch on.
The Big Christmas Lights Switch On takes place in the Market Square this Sunday (November 17), and everyone’s invited to join in the fun and festivities.
The annual Big Switch On kicks off Christmas season this year with Star Radio taking control of the stage, promising to entertain the crowds from midday. There will be a line up from local schools, performing arts clubs, choirs and much much more.
Make sure you don’t miss out this weekend, here is everything you need to know about the big switch on.
Who is switching on the lights in Cambridge Market Square?
The big question on everyone’s minds, will it be a local celebrity born and bred in Cambridgeshire? Maybe a county wide hero? Or will it be a big national name? We can’t wait to find out!
This year, Star Radio and Cambridge BID have been searching for your star to turn on the Christmas Lights. Running a competition on air and online, people across Cambridgeshire were asked to nominate a local hero to flick that all important switch.
The competition was tough, but a winner has been selected by the panel of judges, so come along to the Market Square to see who the lucky winner is.

Where to park for the Cambridge Christmas lights switch on?
If you are thinking of parking in the centre of the city then there are a few options but bear in mind it will be VERY busy.
You have the choice of the Grand Arcade car park, which is closest to the Market Square which means it will presumably be the busiest as well.
If you don’t fancy the stress of parking in the city then not to worry because the Park and Ride services will also be running throughout the day in and out of the city.
The queues for the buses are likely to be longer than normal due to the amount of visitors wanting to watch the switch on but it is an easier way to exit the city after it has all finished.
Cambridge Station tree switch on
This year a separate event will take place on Thursday November 14 to officially switch on the Christmas Tree at Cambridge Train Station.
Join Star Radio Breakfast Presenter Josh Lovatt to switch on the tree and officially kick off Christmas in the CB1 area.
Starting at around 5pm, Josh will be bringing his decks and party tunes (and maybe the odd Christmas song) to the Station and asking you to help celebrate the start of Christmas.
There will be a bar and some food stalls close by so grab a mulled wine and something to eat and enjoy the evening! The lights will be switched on around 6pm.
